National Motor Museum’s Reference Library

The National Motor Museum’s Reference Library is widely recognized as one of the largest resources of its type anywhere in the world. Its holdings cover motor-cars, motorcycles, commercial vehicles and horse-drawn carriage literature dating from the 1880s onwards. The type of material held is wide and varied and includes approximately 13,000 books, 31,000 workshop manuals and handbooks, 9,000 event programmes, 2,400 auction catalogues, around 100,000 manufacturers’ sales brochures and 88,000 periodicals. Mainly in English, the collection includes a number of foreign language publications.

The Museum’s Motoring Archive holds 100,000 items including original documents relating to land speed records, personalities and company records.

Researchers wishing to access the National Motor Museum’s library and archive collections are welcome to use the reading room  which is open, by appointment, Tuesday – Friday 10.00 – 13.00  & 14.00 – 17.00 Full details including the current charges may be found on National Motor Museum Trust website at: www.nationalmotormuseum.org.uk
